I haven't even started the Juris Doctor at Melbourne Law school yet but I have found and purchased all the law books for the core 16 subjects for $440.59
This is how I achieved this:
1.) First of all I actively googled "melbourne uni law books" and other key terms around this theme.
2.) I found this website, MULSS Textbook exchange.
3.) I collated a list of all required text books. I had to click on each subject.
4.) Once I had all the books, I used the search button within this forum to pull up every listing for a particular book. This is better than going through every listing on this forum.
5.) I emailed, called or texted the students who had posted the lowest price.
6.) As I had the names of all the books, I looked for them on ebay. I found several books for $10, three at $6, one at $5, and I bid $1 on one book and won.
7.) I also googled other universities text book exchanges.
8.) The most elusive book, Zuckermans Australian Civil Procedure presented it's own challenge. It is on here but given I hadn't paid more than $40 for another book I wasn't sure why I was going to pay $80 $100 or $130 for it.
Found it on Facebook marketplace. $50.
A couple of takeaways:
The books on this forum are overpriced relative to every other forum mentioned above.
This forum doesn't have much stickiness amongst students which you can by the recency of the posts.
Half the students I contacted on here didn't even get back to me.
2/3rds of the people I bought from I asked for a discount. Depends on whether I thought it was good value, but ebay has a make an offer button.
Many sellers on other forums have multiple listings and will do bulk deals to clear out their shelves.
It doesn't take much effort to be resourceful!
I have just graduated from the MBA at the business school and I am starting the JD next year in 2021, if any 1Ls, 2Ls or 3Ls want to meet up for coffee on campus i'm available on

Look forward to hearing from you!
